How to find the best Recreation Facility for you

So now you want to find a recreation facility, because you’re all geared up to get into better shape or improve your performance in your chosen favorite sport!

How do you find a facility that offers sports specific training or conditioning?

And how do you make the most of the instruction?

Let’s start with the facility itself.

There are two places that will offer sports specific training or conditioning:

  • Private facilities like a Sports Performance Institute that specialize in sports improvement

Or:

  • Recreation facilities like a tennis club that offer a tennis pro and sometimes a gym, and public facilities like a university or public recreation facility run by a state or local municipality.

Either way, it’s easiest to find a qualified instructor if you know someone that has had a successful experience and can refer you their name.

Next option is to look in the yellow pages or Internet.

If you go this route then definitely interview at least two potential instructors and facilities. Look at both their qualifications and how they work with you. If their style clashes with your personality, then you are probably better off choosing someone else.

Likewise you have some pretty important obligations too!

  • First is to be open and willing to learn.

  • Second is to follow the instructor’s instructions , especially if they give you homework or extra practice assignments.

  • Third is practice, practice, and practice! You are in charge of your performance improvement!

The results: Well they can be pretty awesome!

The great baseball player Pete Rose underwent a sports performance evaluation at Ohio University. He took the suggestions and really focused on sports specific conditioning, which many of us in the sports performance field believe may have given him an extra 2-3 years of peak performance in his career.
